This 2008 summer research seminar is an effort to create opportunities for Los Angeles area youth to become participants and leaders in our democracy.

YEARS Summer Seminar Activities:

  • Critical Research Participation: Youth researchers will investigate multiple areas of democracy and education that influence their daily lives. These subjects will include civic engagement, barriers to higher education, health care, immigration, land technology.
  • Leadership Development Workshops: Students will learn effective leadership skills from some of the most respected community leaders in Los Angeles and the nation. These will include elected and appointed officials, community advocates, and private and public leaders.
  • College Access Guidance: Participating students will participate in a series of workshops created to help guide them through the college application process. College representatives, admissions staff, and college access experts will provide students with on-going guidance throughout their senior year.
